Raymond Central: we can do it

I make a difference

Both have merit, both are very expensive to build. Which would you like to see included with the renovation / construction at the high school and why?

Auditorium. We already have 3 gym's. It's time to add some improvements for our successful Speech, Drama, DI, Band, FBLA, AG/ FFA programs. However recent research I have done shows a need to move the 6th grade to the high school. Moving the 6th grade would add to the need for an additional gym for physical education and additional athletic programs. As part of the overall improvement plan a second gym would be justified. SO to move our school into the future a second gym on the HS site would be reasonable and necessary. I believe to insure the project takes care of our needs for the future both a gym and an auditorium are justified and should be included in the plan.
May I ask what research shows the need to move the 6th grade to the high school? What would be the advantages/disadvantages of the move?

The research was just me calling the principals and the 6th grade teachers. one person has disputed the claim that both buildings are at capacity however there is a pathways program at Ceresco taking some space and the kindergarten class has been split into four classrooms which I don't think we have ever done. I believe we need to plan for some growth and moving the 6th seems like a logical move. Also it would be possible for 6th to participate in some additional programs like football, DI and track. I haven't found any disadvantages. I wrote more in my blog.

I am interested in your thoughts

I think a gym and auditorium are both necessary for the future. The gym can be a practice gym like Malcolm. I think moving the 6th grade to the High school is another good idea. It would add to the junior high programs and get the kids involved in more activities one year sooner. I believe any activity is a good thing and keeps kids out of trouble. Plus it gets more parents involved with school activities if their kids are involved. We need to have more we and us and not I and me in our school and I think the new leadership will have this potential. School morale is critical.
