I think a auditorium or performance area is a very important part of any improvement project at Raymond Central, after all the speech team has just won another state title. This makes 14 consecutive state championships. that record is unmatched by any other school in the state! Think about that for a moment.... if the Nebraska football team won 14 national championships would they be playing on a dirt field somewhere or a nice football stadium... The Raymond Central Speech teams have certainly earned something much better than what they have now. I don't think what we need has to be fancy, but I think we can make something that is a great improvement, yet very flexible and functional for multiple uses like plays, band, choir, DI, plus board meetings, teachers meetings and the like. My idea is a "Lecture Hall" style room similar to what is used in colleges and universities with tiered seating, good acoustics, lighting and sound system. 5-600 total capacity. I found a photo that is representative of what I had in mind.

here is another with a curtain/ stage setup.

Here is the style of seating with folding tablet arm

I was thinking music & band performances, speech, drama would get alot of use from a performance area like this. this would take the load off the gym and would save labor from constantly setting up chairs on the gym floor. The seating would be much nicer than the wooden bleachers. I mentioned the idea to some of the teachers and administrators..so far everyone thought this would be very useful. several of the staff members have worked at schools with similar performance areas, and they had very positive reactions. I expect some additional comments as everyone thinks about this a bit more. I had no idea how many things they thought this could be used for, I'll try to get them all listed here, there most likely will be more as folks think about this a little more. Speech & Drama Choir, music, band, madrigals Elementary music programs District FFA meetings FBLA Mock trial Teachers meetings Board meetings Student assembly's Student council guest speakers classes special presentations inservice meetings After visiting with just a few staff members I came to the conclusion it would be easier to compile a list for the things you would not use it for. I believe this is something both our students and staff deserve and something the entire community can be proud of. I'm not always too good with names, but this one was easy: Dan Johnson Memorial Hall This is number 3 on my list of essential items
