OK, Let me tear this thing apart. First, the location. The area for the addition is the south parking lot. it has a huge drop off on the east side. In the budget is over 1/2 million to level this hole. Building in this area creates several problems that need to be dealt with. To provide access to the east side of the building, replace the lost parking space, deal with the drainage, Access to the fuel tank for heating fuel located on the south side of the main building. This location lacks common sense. its also close to the sewage lagoon.

Here is a look at the drop off. this would need to be built up to grade level and a road capable of holding a 80,000# Fuel tanker since the normal access to the fuel tank is cut off by expanding the building to the south. Things like snow removal become more complicated. this also requires relocating the entire south parking lot and over half of the parking space south of the main building. Taxpayers have already invested in paving the area south of the building so much of that would be torn out when using this location. Not a very good choice here.

Here is the entrance. this is a really poor design for this location. If you have ever been on this hill when the snow is blowing you will understand. The double entrance is really dumb. For security there should be a single entrance. this nightmare would require extra personnel for security. the plaza looks useless and a maintenance nightmare. If you are going to have a seperate entrance you mizewell have a separate building. the roof will be another nightmare.

This really lacks common sense. you enter the main entrance, then immediately go down a bunch of stairs. when its wet or snowy those steps will be an accident waiting to happen. The whole thing is complicated and a complete waste of space. this is really a dissapointment. one of the real deficiency's is the entrance and the handicap access. This is the best we can do for 10 million?ADA and access is improved by adding more levels and stairs? thats dumb. Rest rooms. We definitely can use something on the north east end of the main building. Even tho we lose a classroom on the east end it there is a need for it. I count 5 sets of restrooms, 4 locker rooms and a family / handicap by the main gym. This is getting out of hand. you can tell somebody dreamed this up that was not paying the maintenance on all this. This is way out of hand. the layout of the addition can be much better to utilize the equipment better. More unrealistic stuff. its pretty clear this pic of what this "frankenbuilding" MIGHT look like is just to appeal to a few folks that are not concerned with long term cost. There is plenty on the BARRACKS falling apart already. The transformers next to the connecting link is another dumb thing. so we box those in now. how you gonna get to those when the need to be serviced or replaced? And the Biggie. the 4th gym. there is a separate blog just for that.
